Gov. Joet launches “1Bataan Goes Electric Today”

In a momentous event held on Thursday, Bataan Governor Jose Enrique “Joet” Garcia III witnessed the signing of a Service Agreement between Global Electric Transport (GET) Philippines, led by Managing Director Anthony Dy, and the Bataan Jeepney Operators and Drivers Transport Service Cooperatives, headed by Chairman Potenciano Pastor Dominguez.

The ceremony marked a significant step towards the realization of the “1Bataan Goes Electric Today” initiative, which aims to introduce electric-powered Public Utility Vehicles (PUVs) in the province.

The Service Agreement outlines the collaboration between GET Philippines and the local transport cooperatives for the deployment of electric PUVs. This development aligns with the province’s long-term plan to transition towards sustainable and eco-friendly public transportation. The highlight of this groundbreaking initiative is the commitment to powering the electric vehicles with clean energy.

According to Governor Garcia, the charging infrastructure for the electric PUVs will harness solar energy, ensuring an environmentally friendly and sustainable operation. This move not only reduces the carbon footprint of public transportation but also contributes to the province’s efforts in combating climate change.

Governor Garcia expressed gratitude for the support and collaboration of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI Philippines) in realizing the Green Mobility Program for Bataan. This partnership is expected to play a pivotal role in gradually implementing environmentally conscious transportation solutions, enhancing the overall commuting experience for residents while simultaneously contributing to environmental preservation.

As part of the Green Mobility Program, the initiative aims to modernize the province’s public transportation system, making it more efficient, accessible, and environmentally friendly. The deployment of electric PUVs is expected to significantly improve air quality, reduce noise pollution, and mitigate the adverse health effects associated with traditional combustion engine vehicles.

The green initiative, Gov. Garcia said, is a testament to Bataan’s commitment to sustainable development and green initiatives. It reflects the province’s dedication to creating a cleaner, healthier, and more resilient community for its residents. The move towards electric-powered public transportation aligns with global efforts to transition away from fossil fuels and embrace cleaner alternatives for a greener future.

With the signing of the Service Agreement, Bataan is poised to become a trailblazer in the adoption of electric-powered public transportation in the Philippines, setting an example for other regions to follow suit. As the province embraces this eco-friendly transformation, it marks a significant milestone towards building a more sustainable and environmentally conscious future for Bataan and its residents.
